La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Italian’s Guardia Di Finanza seized documents in Hellas Veroa’s headquarters on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation for suspected tax evasion.

Verona‘s President Maurizio Setti and 25 other people are under investigation for suspected tax evasion, so the Guardia di Finanza, Italy’s financial police, seized documents inside the club’s headquarters this morning.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s an investigation from the Reggio Emilia Prosecutor that led to other searches in other offices in northern and central Italy.

Investigators suspect Verona registered sponsorship deals through fake invoices, evading taxes for €10m.

It remains to be seen if the current investigation will affect negotiations to sell the club.

Setti has been in talks with an American fund interested in Verona, receiving an offer of circa €120m to sell a majority stake in the club.

Verona are in the relegation zone in Serie A and have only won two games this season, the last one at the end of August against José Mourinho’s Roma.

Update: Verona denied being under investigation and clarified their position with an official statement on Wednesday afternoon.
