Pogba postpones consultation over World Cup fear

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has postponed his planned specialist consultation, as the midfielder must discuss with France whether he has surgery that could rule him out of the 2022 World Cup.

The former Manchester United man has been diagnosed with a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee after a training session in Los Angeles.

He was expected to go under the knife in the USA and be on the touchlines for just over a month, but instead he flew back to Europe.

A consultation was expected in Lyon today with Professor Sonnery Cottet-Bertrand, who also performed knee surgery on Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but that has been delayed until next week.

According to Calciomercato.com and Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba, Juventus and the France medical staff all want to take their time before making the right decision.

While the operation that would rule him out for one to two months is possible, it could only be a temporary fix and leave the risk of damaging the knee even further along the line.

A suture of the meniscus would resolve the issue once and for all, but at the same time risk ruling Pogba out for five months and therefore missing the 2022 World Cup, set to be played in Qatar in November and December.
