The guest list for Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 40th birthday party last night included Gianluigi Donnarumma, Paul Pogba, Gennaro Gattuso, Antonio Cassano, Adriano Galliani and Luciano Moggi.

The Sweden international turned 40 on Sunday and celebrated at the Milanello training ground with a huge cake, then was presented with a bottle of wine the same age as he is.

After the Rossoneri’s 3-2 Serie A victory away to Atalanta, in nearby Bergamo, the squad returned and joined in the party at the Hyatt hotel in Milan.

According to one of the attendees, former Juventus director Moggi, it was a surprise party organised by Ibrahimovic’s wife Helena.

“It was a wonderful celebration and there were so many sporting champions there, including Donnarumma, Pogba, Cassano, Gattuso and many others,” Moggi told Calciomercato.com.

“In the end, the whole Milan team arrived straight from Bergamo after the victory over Atalanta too.”

It was Moggi who signed Ibrahimovic for Juventus in 2004 after he had first made his mark at Ajax.

“I consider him one of the most important players I signed, because he gave enormous results to us and to all of Italian football.

“I hadn’t seen Pogba in a while, so I was happy to chat with him again. We talked about the Premier League, he told me it’s difficult, but Manchester United have a good team and Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival could improve the situation.”

Nothing seems to phase Ibrahimovic and that includes a surprise 40th birthday party organised by his wife.

“He wasn’t remotely emotional. Maybe he was inside, but on the outside, it was the same old Zlatan. Zlatan knows what he has to do, whether he’s 30 years old, 40 or 50.”

  1. Parties, new half a million dollar sports car, national team call up, but no games for the club that’s paying him 7mm per year. Sweet.

  2. Vero@

And what do you think he should do? Play injuried?
Where do you think Milan would have been without ibra?
The winning mentality Milan have shown the last seasons is because of Zlatan and His demanding attitude but maybe you think it was better when Milan was a team outside the champions league then the scudetto contenders they have become with Zlatan in the squad?

  3. I would pay 5m per season just to be in the dressing room. He brings a certain expectation of the players around him and most importantly (for me, anyway) the fans believe his passion and dedication to the club. He said Milan gave him his smile back, he never wanted to leave and he always said he wanted to come back.
