Pogba continuing Manchester United injury record at Juventus

The news that Paul Pogba has damaged the lateral meniscus in his knee and could be out for several weeks prompts Juventus fans to look back at his terrible recent fitness record for Manchester United.

A statement from the club confirms Pogba has been diagnosed with a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee and will visit a specialist.

If it is simply a small lesion that can be resolved with conservative treatment, then he will be out of action for two to three weeks.

However, if surgery is required, that could take two to three months to get him back on the pitch.

The news of an injury so early into pre-season is a blow for Juventus fans, but perhaps not entirely a surprise for Manchester United supporters, who grew increasingly frustrated with his injury record.

Last season the 29-year-old made only 27 competitive appearances for the club, contributing one goal and nine assists.

Pogba had eight different injuries over the last three seasons, in which he missed a total of 72 matches in 33 months.

This was largely due to recurring muscular issues to his thigh, hamstring and calf, and an ankle sprain, so the addition of the knee is hardly reassuring.

Even with the best case scenario, it will be a race against time for Pogba to be available for the opening Serie A game of the season against Sassuolo on August 15.
