Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias and five other people are going on trial for attempting to extort money from the player in 2022.

France Press, France24 and others report that the judges evaluating the evidence today decided that there was enough to push forward with a trial.

Pogba extortion attempt shocked football world

The extortion attempt ran from March to July 2022, but reached its peak on March 19 when the former Manchester United midfielder was effectively kidnapped and held at an apartment near Paris.

He said that he was taken there by childhood friends, only to find they were working with two masked men who held him at gunpoint and demanded €13m.

Although not present at the meeting, Pogba’s brother Mathias was later found to be working with the gang and put pressure on the player to pay them.

When they were arrested, the five figures all claimed they were the ‘victims’ of pressure and manipulation from armed robbers to stage the extortion attempt.

Pogba is still under contract at Juventus, but currently appealing the four-year ban for failing a doping test.
