Didier Deschamps seemed confident that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba would be fit enough to take part in the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

The 29-year-old French midfielder suffered a lesion to the lateral meniscus in his right knee in a training session with Juventus at the end of last month, an injury that many feared could take him out of contention for the World Cup. Pogba and Juventus ultimately opted against surgery and instead decided to move forward with a conservative treatment plan for the next five weeks.

Speaking to Le Parisien, Deschamps spoke about the availability of both Pogba and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante for the upcoming World Cup.

“It’s important that they’re there, but we’re never safe. Hence the need to prepare younger players. Of course I’m in contact with Paul. His participation in the World Cup to date is not in question.”

The Frenchman’s treatment plan will see him start off working in the gym and swimming pool before progressing onto individual sessions on the training pitch. Assuming his recovery goes to plan, he’ll then be slowly integrated back into Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus squad.

  1. The problem is if he goes with France and gets injured again they will be a man down and it will impact Juventus more long term.
