Gigio Donnarumma is expected to start against Real Madrid tonight, suggesting a status change for the Italy international in Paris.

Pochettino has rotated the 23-year-old and Keylor Navas this season and the ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper has more appearances than the former Milan star (21 to 17). However, Donnarumma is expected to play his second Champions League game in a row against Real Madrid tonight. Gigio and Keylor had played one European match each this term. Donnarumma has four Champions League appearances, Keylor Navas three.

Pochettino seemed annoyed when asked about the competition between the two goalkeepers yesterday but is determined to start the Italian in goal tonight, according to multiple reports in Italy and France.

“Tomorrow, we will play with a goalkeeper,” Pochettino said at a press conference yesterday.

“I am showing patience with the media because I’ve had to explain the same thing for the last eight months. They are both excellent goalkeepers, that is what the club wanted.

Pochettino makes Donnarumma decision ahead of Real Madrid vs. PSG

“I will make a decision tomorrow and one of them will be disappointed, but we are happy with the way we are dealing with the situation so far.”

Pochettino’s choice signals a status change for Donnarumma, who would be picked for the most important games of the season. The Ligue 1 giants seem to have the French title in their pocket, already having a 13-points lead over second-placed OGN Nice, who beat PSG last weekend.

Pochettino’s side lost the last two league games with Keylor Navas in goal (against Nice and Nantes), while Donnarumma was between the sticks in their 3-1 win over St.Etienne on February 26. Although Pochettino is unlikely to pick a unique starting goalkeeper in the near future, the trust in Donnarumma is proved by the fact that the former Milan star will play the most crucial games of the campaign against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. PSG will need to defend their advantage tonight after a 1-0 win in Paris three weeks ago.
