The head of European football’s governing body was today barred from all football-related activity for eight years by FIFA’s Independent Ethics Committee, along with FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
However, in a statement UEFA has backed Platini, and intimated that the Frenchman will appeal his ban.

“UEFA has taken note of the decision of the FIFA Ethics Committee to suspend Michel Platini for eight years from all football-related activities,” the Press release begins.
“Naturally UEFA is extremely disappointed with this decision, which nevertheless is subject to appeal.
"Once again, UEFA supports Michel Platini's right to a due process and the opportunity to clear his name.”
