New President Platek flew in to be part of the event and the fans took the opportunity to welcome him as well as cheer on their squad ahead of the big game.

The Platek family completed the takeover in February and he held a press conference today at the NH Hotel.

“We looked around, liked the city and the fact it was by the sea. We realised this was the right time to invest. I had a walk around yesterday, met the team and staff. The fans are all so nice and showing incredible passion. If I’d known, I’d have bought the club earlier!

“Serie A is a dream for everyone. It’s difficult to find the perfect team, but what I want is a team that is competitive both on and off the field, with ethical values, something the whole city can be proud of.”

Platek confirmed they are in talks with the local council to modernise the Stadio Alberto Picco and “our intention is to take any opportunity to improve the squad. We want to be competitive and have a team that is in the top flight with passion, not just fighting for safety.”
