According to the Corriere dello Sport, as part of the general plan Sabatini may offer Pjanic a new contract, one with a revised buy-out clause.
Currently the 26-year-old would be allowed to leave the club should anyone be willing to shell out €38m, a sum that poses no problem to suitors such as Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
Sabatini can raise that price in a new contract, but he would also have to raise Pjanic's €4m yearly wages, which are already among the club's top earners.
The new contract however wouldn't stop Roma from hearing new offers, meaning that they may sell the player immediately after signing the new deal and never have to pay that higher salary.
Roma's transfer strategy for this summer would then be financed by the sale of less crucial players, such as Umar Sadiq, Leandro Paredes, Antonio Sanabria, Federico Ricci, Iago Falque, Ervin Zukanovic, Seydou Doumbia and Adem Ljajic.
