Former Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic defended head coach Massimiliano Allegri, underlining his importance and consistency.

The Italian coach has been regularly criticised by supporters since returning for his second spell in the summer of 2021, with complaints centred around his defensive tactical style, reliance on old favourites and usage of certain players like Dusan Vlahovic.

Despite the criticism, Juventus have performed well this season and sit just two points behind league leaders Inter heading into the Derby d’Italia. The team were set to finish in the top four last season before being handed a points deduction for off-pitch issues.

Speaking via TMW, Pjanic defended Allegri’s work in charge of Juventus and underlined why he’s such an important figure for the club.

“You can’t please everyone, and certain criticisms always come more or less from the same people, but they don’t affect him. Those who are involved in football know the work that Allegri does well, it’s no coincidence that he was sought out by the biggest clubs in the world, like Real Madrid.

“He knows very well what he has available and based on what he has available he knows how he has to play to bring results, and he will play that way. And he brings results, it’s a guarantee.

“Even last year, with everything that happened, with key players almost never available, he entered the race among the top four. And this year I’m sure that Juve will fight until the end for the Scudetto, I have no doubts, because I know that with him you have a certainty in your hand.”

Pjanic spent three years working under Allegri in Turin, being an important figure in the Juventus squad that dominated the last decade. He made 178 appearances for the club, helping them win four Scudetti and two Coppa Italia titles.
