Pirlo’s son: ‘Last year’s Juve were much better…’

Nicolo Pirlo suggested that his father Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus side played better football than Massimiliano Allegri’s squad this season.

The former Milan and Bianconeri midfielder replaced Maurizio Sarri as head coach in the summer of 2020, his first coaching experience, and he guided the club to 4th in the Serie A table and their 14th Coppa Italia title. He was dismissed at the end of the season, with Allegri returning to take over.

Pirlo’s son Nicolo is unimpressed with the work of Allegri’s Juventus side this season, highlighting his frustrations on social media after the Coppa Italia win over Fiorentina.

“The fact remains that last year’s Juve were much better, am I wrong about that too?”

He clarified in a later tweet: “However, don’t misinterpret my words, I’m talking about the way we play, not anything else. Juve this year is a great team, respect for the coach and the players!”

Many Juventus fans are incredibly unhappy with the work carried out by Allegri this season, complaining about boring football and poor results. The team will again finish 4th in Serie A and they have a chance to retain their Coppa Italia title when they face Inter in the final next month in Rome.
