Nicolo Pirlo suggested that his father Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus side played better football than Massimiliano Allegri’s squad this season.

The former Milan and Bianconeri midfielder replaced Maurizio Sarri as head coach in the summer of 2020, his first coaching experience, and he guided the club to 4th in the Serie A table and their 14th Coppa Italia title. He was dismissed at the end of the season, with Allegri returning to take over.

Pirlo’s son Nicolo is unimpressed with the work of Allegri’s Juventus side this season, highlighting his frustrations on social media after the Coppa Italia win over Fiorentina.

“The fact remains that last year’s Juve were much better, am I wrong about that too?”

He clarified in a later tweet: “However, don’t misinterpret my words, I’m talking about the way we play, not anything else. Juve this year is a great team, respect for the coach and the players!”

Many Juventus fans are incredibly unhappy with the work carried out by Allegri this season, complaining about boring football and poor results. The team will again finish 4th in Serie A and they have a chance to retain their Coppa Italia title when they face Inter in the final next month in Rome.

  1. Absolutely true.
Pirlo didn’t even have Locatelli , Zakaria and Vlahovic either.
Arthur and Dybala were injured for almost all the season as well.
His midfield was literally Ramsey , Bentancur and a Rabiot who was performing worst than this year.
He did have Chiesa and Cr7 for most of the season though, so maybe they will make it even with Allegri’s team. but still Juve played much better last year imho

  2. They had CR7 who guarantees you 30+ goals a season. Double what Morata and Dybala currently do. So yes, they were CR7 better. Barely scraped into 4th place, so at least this year, after a poor start, they found consistency. Love Pirlo but in midfield. He’d be better than most of the deadwood there now.

  3. Pirlo has a plausible excuse. No coaching experience and yet unearthed the potential in Chiesa. Fast forward and look at PhD Max. A stronger 4th spot battling team, more years coaching the slow ball fiesta and yet less points then Pirlo at this stage, fewer goals scored and no trophies added whereas the novice coach picked up 2. Juve are not winning the Coppa Italia and in the 3 games this term they have failed to win against the Nerazzurri. PhD Max is starting with Sideways as he will not trust Pellegrini and De Sciglio is suspended. Looking at the CL, Pirlo was out on away goals whereas the Dino the Dinosaur was royally spanked 4-1 and even worse then Sarri.

  5. CR7 is not a team player and only wants to score goals for records so Pirlo had to try and get a team to play as a team and not rely on CR7 which is not easy. As a difference, Chiesa was flying under Pirlo and horrible under Allegri as his defensive style cripples creative players.

  6. With max allegry i start to hate soccer in general, am a juventus fan since lord del piero played for juventus, i stopped watching the games since the defeat against villarreal i only check the scores, because am disgusted to watch them play. let the juve mgmt be happy , wonder how many juve fans around the world feel same way.

  7. Pirlo no doubt had a better team. Ronaldo himself was worth Vlahovic Zakaria and Locatelli put together, not even counting that Allegri was without Vlahovic and Zakaria from August to September and Chiesa missing more than half the season.

  8. Anyone that thinks Pirlo did well has a very short memory. His team didn’t score many goals at all (even with Ronaldo and Chiesa)

Juve have improved in 2022 but the midfield and defence still needs work. Vlahovic is a great signing. Dybala will be a great loss as juve lack creativity.

  9. Reality is, Pirlo did very well as inexperienced coach. He was no Ancelotti, and no Zidane. People may say Pirlo had Ronaldo, but Ronaldo was more of a sabotage and headache to the coach than anything. If Pirlo subbed Ronaldo, he would be in trouble, and if he kept him on, he was killing his team. Pirlo was given a difficult task to manage Ronaldo when he was just a player himself not far before. So, yes, Ronaldo gave Pirlo more goals, but he gave him more headaches, and made it hard for Pirlo to play his game and develop his style. That is why Allegri wanted Ronaldo out. Allegri is Allegri, boring football, wasting time, and working on half chances. Allegri and his style will die if effective play time goes in effect. Juventus lost to Porto because of a player errors not a tactical coach error, but Juventus went out of Champions league because Villarreal outplayed them.
