Andrea Pirlo has been linked with the Barcelona job and President Joan Laporta is reportedly trying to convince the board at Camp Nou.

Tuttomercatoweb spoke to journalist Gerard Romero regarding the possibilities of a move to the Catalans for the World Cup winner, who left the position at Juventus after only one season.

Pirlo was replaced by Massimiliano Allegri at the Allianz Stadium after winning the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana last term.

Confirmed: Pirlo among Barcelona candidates to replace Koeman

But the results in Serie A – finishing fourth – and the exit in the last 16 of the Champions League were deemed to little by the Bianconeri hierarchy.

Romero told TMW that Ronald Koeman ‘doesn’t have Laporta’s trust’ and claims the Blaugrana only decided to keep the Dutchman at the helm due to the lack of money.

When asked if Pirlo can really become Koeman’s successor at Camp Nou, the well-known journalist replied that Laporta wants the former Italy international.

“Pirlo is a personal gamble by Joan Laporta,” Romero told TMW. “The Blaugrana President feels he has a gift for discovering the coaches and is thinking seriously about it.

“The management, however, claim they have better options on the table for the Barcelona dugout. Laporta reflects on Pirlo but doesn’t have the support of the sporting and technical directors.”

  1. i could see alot of jealousy of pirlo happening, if he was to get this barca job. coaches who toiled and come up from serie b and and bottom team jobs in serie A , would look and wonder how a guy with little coaching experience could end up getting some of the biggest coaching jobs at 2 big clubs. the desire to see him fail would be immense. from watching pirlo coaching at juve; i could see he has alot of potential. but his coaching ideas are not well reformed. i think he should take a relegation serie A team job or serie b job to really practice his systems and ideas without big job pressure where you have to win every game.
