Andrea Pirlo is at serious risk of the sack after Sampdoria suffered another home defeat, which left them in penultimate place in Serie B.

The Blucerchiati had hoped to be in the running for promotion back to Serie A after their relegation last summer and a change of ownership to former Leeds United patron Andrea Radrizzani.

They also drafted in former Juventus and Fatih Karagumruk coach Pirlo, but the season is not going to plan at all.

Fans began to protest at Marassi during today’s 2-1 home defeat to Catanzaro, which left them in penultimate position with just three points from eight games.

They would’ve amassed five points, but started the campaign from -2 over financial irregularities by previous owner Massimo Ferrero.

Samp won 2-1 away to Ternana in the opening fixture on August 19, then picked up just two draws away to Cremonese and Parma, both 1-1 results, along with five losses.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Blucerchiati seem set to keep faith with Pirlo at least until the next match against Ascoli, waiting to make a decision during the break for international duty.

  1. 3 well known coaches that every club should avoid : Andrea Pirlo, Marco Giampaolo & Eusebio Di Francesco. Unless the club owners are willing to face relegation fight.
