The Bianconeri beat Novara 5-0 in a pre-season friendly on Sunday, giving a glimpse of the team we might see against Sampdoria in the Serie A opener this weekend.
“We are trying various different tactical solutions,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.
“In the first half, we used a four-man defence, while in the second it was with three. It’s important to have alternatives based also on which players I have available.
“We’ve still got a week to prepare for Sampdoria. This team must have enthusiasm going into a long campaign and we’ll have the time to work all together.”
Cristiano Ronaldo and Dejan Kulusevski were the forwards, with Paulo Dybala still recovering, but Juve are still without a genuine centre-forward in the squad.
Negotiations are dragging on to get Suarez free from Barcelona, while Roma’s Dzeko or Kean on loan from Everton are other options.
“I do need a striker as soon as possible, but there’s a long way to go in this transfer market, so there’s time for that too,” added the coach.
“It was the first game for Kulusevski, Arthur and Weston McKennie in the Juventus jersey, they were playing with different teammates, maybe in different roles to what they were accustomed to, but they already seemed to be in good shape.”
