Andrea Pirlo’s Sampdoria lost 2-1 at home against Cittadella on Monday and have only won one of the opening five Serie B games this term.

The former midfielder is facing a tough start to life at Marassi, with just one win in the first five league games, leaving the Blucerchiati to sit 16th in the Serie B table.

Samp won the opening match of the campaign away, beating Ternana 2-1, but then collected two consecutive home defeats against Pisa (0-2) and Venezia (1-2). They picked up a 1-1 draw away at Cremonese on September 3 but lost again at home again on Monday, facing a 2-1 defeat against Cremonese.

They have scored five goals so far, conceding eight, only Catanzaro and FeralpiSarò have more.

To make things worse, the next match will be a challenging one on paper as Pirlo’s men will travel to Parma. The Ducali, coached by Fabio Pecchia, are the Serie B leaders with 13 points in five games. They have scored 11 goals and conceded just once.

Pirlo was appointed by new Sampdoria owner Andrea Radrizzani earlier this summer, signing a contract until June 2025.
