Andrea Bertolacci believes Andrea Pirlo and Marco Verratti should play together for Italy.

Verratti is seen by many as the natural heir to Pirlo, who swapped Juventus for New York City in MLS this summer.

However, the Milan midfielder believes both can play together for the Azzurri, and will do his part to facilitate that.

“When I see two such talented players, it’s impossible that they wouldn’t be able to play together,” Bertolacci reasoned in a Press conference ahead of the Malta match.

“When I see two such talented players, it’s impossible that they wouldn’t be able to play together,” Bertolacci reasoned in a Press conference ahead of the Malta match.

“They’re an added value for Italy, and we all have to help each other to play as well as possible for the team.”

Bertolacci moved from Roma to Milan this summer, having spent last season at Genoa, and also discussed his goals for the season with the Rossoneri.

“I’ve said that as a child I supported Milan, and I’ll say it again. I had the [Roberto] Baggio ponytail as a kid, then I changed when I went to Roma.

“I didn’t think twice before going to Milan, it was an important and emotional choice. It’s up to us to prove that we’re strong, as we’re wearing a shirt that’s so important to people.

“It’s not for me to talk about what area is weaker or stronger at Milan. I think about myself, about improving and about doing my best with Milan.

“I’m aiming to repeat last season with an even more important shirt.”
