Andrea Pirlo is one of the candidates considered by Barcelona to replace Ronald Koeman, as confirmed by Italian journalist Alessandro Alciato who wrote the former midfielder’s official biography.

The Dutch coach is on the brink after a heavy 3-0 defeat suffered against Benfica.

The Catalans sit 6th in the La Liga table with 12 points from six games and Koeman’s future is under strict scrutiny.

The club’s directors held an emergency meeting with President Joan Laporta last night to discuss the position of the Dutch coach who Barcelona appointed in 2020.

According to multiple reports, Andrea Pirlo is one of the candidates considered by the Catalans to replace Koeman.

This has also been confirmed by former Sky Sport journalist Alessandro Alciato, the author of Pirlo’s official autobiography ‘I think therefore I play.’

Pirlo was sacked after just one season at Juventus. It was his first season as a professional coach.

Juventus missed out on a tenth successive Serie A title, but managed a top-four finish and won the Coppa Italia under the former Italy star.

His contract with Juventus expires in June 2023, but according to Catalunya Radio, ex-Barcelona midfielder and coach Frank Rijkaard is also among the candidates to take over at the Nou Camp.

  1. I actually think he’d do well there. His style of football is suited to that league and those players. And he has more experience now.

Anyway, he can’t possibly do worse than Koeman.

  2. agree with you, with more experience now i think pirlo gonna be a world class manager there, he just unlucky because juventus board don’t have enough patience for him to grow with juve.

  3. The path peer load should take is earned by merit, for example ‘Mou’ will probably leave after one season at Roma and parallel should take the Roma job, as Mou would likely take on the Barca project?
