Pirlo agent: ‘Could soon be Barcelona talks’

Andrea Pirlo’s agent insists the coach ‘did the maximum he could’ with Juventus, but hints there ‘could soon be’ negotiations with Barcelona.

The coach was originally appointed as the Juve Under-23 boss, with a team that plays in Serie C, but within days was promoted to the senior role to replace Maurizio Sarri.

He lasted just one season, winning the Coppa Italia and the Italian Supercup, while scraping fourth place in Serie A.

“In my view, he did the maximum he could, especially as it was his first year on the bench,” agent Tullio Tinti told Tuttomercatoweb.

There have been reports linking 42-year-old Pirlo with another huge job, as Barcelona seem on the verge of sacking Ronald Koeman after a disastrous start to their campaign.

“There are no negotiations at the moment, but who knows, there could soon be some talks,” was Tinti’s response.

Although a great player and World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, Pirlo has no coaching experience other than that season with Juventus.

He had 52 competitive matches with the Bianconeri, overseeing 34 victories, 10 draws and eight defeats in all competition.

His Juve squad scored 108 goals and conceded only 50.

Pirlo retired from his playing career in January 2018, having represented NYCFC, Juventus, Milan, Inter, Brescia and Reggina.
