This is a crucial result, a head-to-head for the fourth and final Champions League spot, while they will meet again later this month in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

“My heart is split in two, so I hope it’s a draw and that both teams get into the Champions League,” SuperPippo told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inzaghi had the best years of his career at Milan and was also their Coach for one season, while his younger brother Simone is on the Lazio bench.

“My friend Rino Gattuso deserves to go into the Champions League, with the same going for Leonardo and Paolo Maldini, not to mention the fans. They need to see this club getting back to what it has always done.

“My brother Simone is doing incredible things at Lazio, for their results and the style of football. He already would’ve deserved to be in the Champions League last season. It’s a fundamental showdown, but whoever loses is not out of the running, as there are still so many games to go.”

Inzaghi is impressed by Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, who could become the first Serie A striker ever to score at least 10 goals with two different clubs in one season.

“He’s a very good player and (Genoa director Giorgio) Perinetti had told me about him some time ago. A striker who scores over 20 goals in his debut Serie A season has to be a great buy.

“He settled in with great intelligence, knows how to move and rarely gets it off target when managing to shoot. Having said all that, let’s not forget about Patrick Cutrone.”
