Stefano Pioli concedes Fiorentina’s campaign is petering out because of too many stalemates, as they were held again by Torino.

It was their fifth consecutive home draw and Giovanni Simeone’s opener was cancelled out by a Daniele Baselli curler.

Stefano Pioli concedes Fiorentina’s campaign is petering out because of too many stalemates, as they were held again by Torino.

It was their fifth consecutive home draw and Giovanni Simeone’s opener was cancelled out by a Daniele Baselli curler.

“We’ve collected too many draws for us to be in a better position in the table,” confessed the Coach on Sky Sport Italia.

“We did well today, won many tackles, were quick to react on the second ball, but were not effective or clinical enough. We even conceded a goal because we stopped to protest with the referee.

“A few moments later, Simeone almost went clear on goal. More clinical teams than us finish these changes and take the lead back immediately and that is what we are missing.

“The performance against Cagliari was not up to Fiorentina standards, but this was an improvement and we didn’t get the victory that we would’ve deserved.”

Fiorentina are surely now too far from the top six to make a genuine Europa League push, but are in the Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta, having drawn the first leg 3-3.

“That is still an objective, because it’s not often that a side like ours gets into the semi-final. There are nine Serie A rounds to go and football teaches us that anything can happen. We have the quality to make our mark.

“We knew from the start of the season that we’d be fighting it out with teams on our level, or maybe more, in order to finish from seventh to 10th. We need enthusiasm to see out the campaign.”
