Pioli pleased by Viola reaction

Stefano Pioli was delighted with Fiorentina’s reaction to last week’s home hammering by Verona in victory at Bologna.

Young star Federico Chiesa netted the winner for the Viola just under 20 minutes from time in a 2-1 win, after both sides earlier scored directly from corners.

“We knew it would be a difficult match,” Pioli told reporters.

“We showed a good reaction and played a tough game. It was a deserved win.”

“We knew it would be a difficult match,” Pioli told reporters.

“We showed a good reaction and played a tough game. It was a deserved win.”

Diego Falcinelli made his Viola debut as a substitute, with Pioli saying he may play the forward alongside Giovanni Simeone in future.

“If in order to win we need to play with two forwards, we will play with two forwards.

“All that matters to me is winning. The important thing is that the players are ready and motivated.

“Today it was important to get back on track after two poor defeats.”

Pioli is pleased to put the disappointment of the 4-1 loss to Veronabehind him, a result which triggered hour-long fan protests outside the Artemio Franchi.

“A match like the one against Verona happens once every hundred times.

“It was such a strange game. Our errors were clear every single situation went against us.

“However, during the week we improved, especially in terms of our responsibility.

“Our target is to lay a good foundation to get good results in the coming years.”
