Stefano Pioli believes Milan earned the Scudetto and the win over Fiorentina thanks to their ‘belief, spirit and quality’ and is eager to see how Napoli resume the season after the World Cup.

The Rossoneri coach was in his hometown of Parma today to receive an award at the legendary Teatro Regio di Parma and spoke about their attempts to keep up with current Serie A leaders Napoli.

“The team has certainly improved in terms of mentality and know how to recognise opportunities,” said Pioli after a last-gasp win over Fiorentina kept the gap at the top to eight points.

“We played with great intensity against a side that caused us a great deal of problems. Winning games like this means we believe, we have spirit and quality, because without those elements, you don’t win these matches.”

This is the break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, so Serie A resumes from January 4.

“It is an anomalous campaign, there are still 23 games to go and there’s room for anything to happen. Napoli’s incredible results have also been anomalous. We’ll have to see how everyone emerges after the World Cup.”

Milan will resume training from December 2 with friendlies and 10 days in Dubai.

They are defending their Serie A title and Pioli looks back at the surprise Scudetto victory last season, when many said Milan did not have the strongest squad.

“I think we were the best team, because in the decisive moment when we had to win six to eight games in a row, we did it with the kind of unity, soul and talent that the other teams couldn’t muster.”

Pioli even got his own chant, ‘Pioli’s On Fire’, which is now the highlight of every pre-match build-up at San Siro.

“It is unusual and moving, because it is not to be taken for granted. The chant started with my players, then the fans. Watching back the footage from last season was emotional, it’s a marvellous dream.”

  1. Pioli out, his way of playing football doesn’t look good, he plays way too defensive. he keeps playing with only 2 central midfielders also against small clubs. AC Milan can’t even play ball possession, the way of playing is way too slow, the players are all standing still, nothing is from the movement, look how many goals AC Milan makes far too few because they hardly create any chances, they have no played opportunities, the football is really bad.

  2. @ Giancarlo Florio

Son, who won the league this year? Enlighten me and who was the coach again? For the winning team. That’s right. Now hush
