Pioli held a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A clash against Sassuolo.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the press office warned journalists attending the presser that they would only accept one question about the Super League.

“I listen to the advice from my club that asked me to focus on our job and our goals. We’ll evaluate what happens in the future. This is not the right time to talk about it,” Pioli said.

When a second reporter tried to ask something about the new competition, the press office urged him to focus his question on the upcoming game.

Sky Sport Italia also points out Pioli never mentioned the words “Champions League” in his press conference.

While, during the previous meetings with the press, he used to say: “Milan’s target is to qualify for the Champions League,” this time around, he repeated a“top-four finish” is this season’s goal.

It is still unclear which European competition Milan will play next season if they get a top-four finish.

On paper, Florentino Perez wants to start the new Super League “as soon as possible,” but there are reports Chelsea and Manchester City are withdrawing from the competition.

UEFA has warned clubs and players involved in the tournament would be banned from any other competition, at a domestic and international level.
