Stefano Pioli warns Rennes will ‘step up the tempo’ from the start to recover from a 3-0 first leg defeat, but Milan ‘will be ready for them’ in the Europa League play-off.

It kicks off at the Roazhon Park at 17.45 GMT.

The first leg ended 3-0 at San Siro with a brace from Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is rested today in favour of Tijjani Reijnders in a more advanced role, and Rafael Leao.

While squad rotation and a Luka Jovic red card saw them lose 4-2 to Monza in Serie A at the weekend, this is more of a first choice XI.

“We play with great focus and desire to get through to the next round. Our opponents are going to be very energetic, especially at the start, but we will be ready for them,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“We only played a week ago and Rennes might change their approach a little, as in order to recover a 3-0 first leg result they must step up the tempo from the opening minutes.”

Ismael Bennacer is back in the midfield with Yunus Musah, but has barely played this season first due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, then Africa Cup of Nations duty.

“I think he is reaching a good period of form, the Africa Cup of Nations took him away from us for a while, but he is getting there.”
