The Rossoneri beat Serie B side Monza 4-1 at San Siro on Saturday evening, with goals from Davide Calabria, Daniel Maldini, Pierre Kalulu and Lorenzo Colombo.

“We got some valuable minutes in the legs of many players, which will be important with the Europa League play-offs coming up,” Pioli told Milan TV.

That clash is with Irish side Shamrock Rovers on September 17, four days before the opening Serie A match with Bologna.

“There weren’t any injuries, we kept a decent tempo and will have to be very concentrated when the time comes, because I’ll have the full squad at my disposal only a few days before the game.

“We’ll be up against a side that is physically in better shape, having begun their season already, so we must be absolutely prepared mentally.”

The coach was asked about the transfer strategy and admitted he is waiting for some reinforcements at the back.

“We’re a bit short-staffed in defence, having Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio and Andrea Conti out injured. I am in constant contact with the club and the directors. There’s a long way to go in the transfer window and we’ll see what situations emerge.”

There are reports of an imminent deal for Tiemoue Bakayoko on loan from Chelsea with option to buy.

“I am the wrong person to ask about that. I only discuss the players at my disposal,” concluded Pioli.
