Stefano Pioli wants Milan to ‘move the ball around quickly’ to unlock the rugged Roma defence, insisting there is ‘no risk’ of the Champions League being a distraction.

It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

These teams are locked together in a battle for fourth place on 56 points apiece, and seeing as they drew 2-2 at San Siro in January, this result will also decide their head-to-head record.

“Serie A is too important, Roma are having a good season, so there is no risk of being distracted by the Champions League,” Pioli told DAZN when asked if the upcoming showdown with Inter will have an influence.

“Against such a well-organised, solid and focused defence, we need to move the ball around quickly, find those channels and also try individual moves, as getting past a man in their defence could be decisive.”

Roma came back from 2-0 down at San Siro in January, making the most of their capabilities from set plays, which is why Tammy Abraham and Andrea Belotti start this evening.

Olivier Giroud returns to the side after missing the 2-0 win over Lecce with an Achilles tendon issue, especially important now that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out with another calf injury that could well end his season early.

“Olivier is the centre of our attack, we know how important he is and the work he does for the whole team.”
