Stefano Pioli says Milan concede too many goals but believes the Rossoneri picked up a draw in a ‘complicated game.’

The Rossoneri were held to a 2-2 draw away at Genoa, but remain Serie A leaders with a one-point lead over Inter.

“It’s a draw in a complicated game, on a difficult pitch,” Pioli told DAZN.

“We could take the lead in the first half and the match would have changed tactically. We gave it all and we took an important result.

“We allowed two goals without conceding much. In general, we are conceding too many goals. It was a tough game, the pitch didn’t allow us to be precise technically, we tried to win it till the end, unluckily we didn’t make it.”

Matteo Gabbia, Ismael Bennacer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Simon Kjaer didn’t play because of injuries.

“When you have five-six players out of action the team changes its characteristics, we didn’t have many injuries before, by the way those who played did well.

“Genoa defended well with [Paolo] Ghiglione, they created trouble for us but we kept the ball possession, we remained into the game, we played, there are absences but the team must give answers as they are doing, we are playing positive games, giving all we need to snatch good results,” Pioli continued.

The Rossoneri will face Sassuolo and Lazio before the Christmas break.

“I don’t think the next two games will tell us where we can get, our target is to improve what we did last season, it would be a great result to qualify for the Champions League.

“The next two games will be important, we come from a period with many, many games. We are only at the beginning we can’t feel tiredness until the end, we must continue like this.”

What does he expect as a Christmas present?

“Positive performances in the next two games, we need to obtain the maximum, we need important performances and two positive results to have a serene Christmas.”

Does he expect a contract extension?

“I am happy to be the coach of this group, we’ll see what happens in the future,” the Italian coach concluded.
