Milan coach Stefano Pioli says his side lacked sharpness in front of goal and that Daniel Maldini “has quality’”.

The Rossoneri could only manage a 1-1 draw against Verona at San Siro, who also went down to ten men with the dismissal of Sofyan Amrabat deep into the second half.

“We suffered justly, because we conceded six shots on goal to Verona and we should’ve been more careful,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia following the game.

“The regret is that we did not immediately take the lead when we had a sensational opportunity in the first half.

“We didn’t have any sharpness when we had the numerical advantage in the second half. It’s too bad that we couldn’t have won even in a moment of difficulty, as we are missing so many players and Tuesday’s efforts [in the Coppa Italia] made themselves felt.”

Milan struggled without the experience of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Pioli hopes to have him back for the Milan derby.

“I hope we can have him back for the derby. He had calf fatigue at the beginning of the week, and then he had the flu.

“There is an excellent chance that he will make the game against Inter.”

Daniel Maldini, son of Paolo, made his Milan debut with several minutes remaining, continuing the lineage of a Maldini in the Rossoneri shirt.

“The boy has quality, he has talent, and clearly talent alone isn’t enough. I hoped that maybe he could have had the ball.”
