Just days after a 3-0 Champions League play-off loss at Bayer Leverkusen, the Aquile were humiliated by the Serie A minnows.
“Unfortunately, I think what happened today was obvious to everyone,” said the Coach.
“We were not a team and I did not get the response I was looking for. Clearly we suffered a psychological blow, but we are Lazio and we must get back on our feet.
“Now there’s the break for international duty and we must rediscover that character that defines us, which was notable by its absence tonight.
“Aside from the transfer market and injuries, this was a competitive side and we cannot play like this. We have to change mentality and prove this is not Lazio.
“We must take responsibility, starting from me, as I lead the team. President Claudio Lotito is angry, as I am, because we were embarrassing tonight.
“As soon as the first goal went in, we just collapsed. We have to react, because difficulties can happen and we can’t become this fragile after one goal.
“If we don’t change tack right now, we’ll go into many more disappointments.”
