Stefano Pioli felt Lazio were incredibly unlucky in their 1-0 defeat to Genoa, having dominated the first half.

“It is difficult to analyse a match like this,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Something like this must never happen again. We put in a great performance, we dominated and we were unable to get a goal. We should at least have been able to earn a 0-0 draw.

“We must convert this disappointment and anger into something positive in the next match. We need quality and determination in front of goal. The performance means this team is getting there, but still lacks something.”

Pioli was forced into all three substitutions for injuries to Lucas Biglia, Dusan Basta and Santiago Gentiletti (seemingly a very serious knee ligament problem).

“I was penalised by the changes, as we really lacked sharpness and fresh legs after the break. All three of them are in a bad way.

“Biglia has an ankle problem, Basta hurt his hand and Gentiletti his knee. Gentiletti had been doing so well, but we hope it isn’t something that serious. The medical staff are not optimistic.”

The red card for summer signing Stefan de Vrij was also a turning point for Lazio.

“The cliche is true: every innocuous ball is decisive. That pass seemed banal, but it led to a goal. We need a different mentality and to play every ball with intelligence.”
