Pioli: ‘Inter are playing well’

Fiorentina Coach Stefano Pioli says Inter are playing well – “we focus too much on results, in terms of performance the Nerazzurri are not in difficulty”.

The two sides meet tomorrow, and it represents a reunion for the Viola Coach who was on the San Siro bench last season.

“The best match [I had at Inter] was the 7-1 win over Atalanta, both technically and tactically,” Pioli recalled in his pre-match Press conference.

The two sides meet tomorrow, and it represents a reunion for the Viola Coach who was on the San Siro bench last season.

“The best match [I had at Inter] was the 7-1 win over Atalanta, both technically and tactically,” Pioli recalled in his pre-match Press conference.

“The worst was when I was sacked, because I’m always disappointed when I don’t get to finish my work.

“We focus too much on results, in terms of performance the Nerazzurri are not in difficulty.

“They’re playing with great depth and presence on the pitch, I’m expecting a strong Inter but we’re prepared to battle them in the best way.

“It’s clear we’ve improved from the first game, before we were a collection of good players but now we’re a team.

“We have to focus on the identity of our play and our philosophy, but my players know we’ll need a great performance to get an extraordinary result.

“We’ll need to make a big effort before we get our little rest.”

There are around seven teams competing for the Europa League this season, and Fiorentina are one of them.

“We have to win our league with those seven challengers, it’s not easy because I don’t think we’re stronger than them but we want it and we can play for it.

“I didn’t like the backward steps with Crotone and Chievo, but certain peaks and troughs are normal because the team is very young in terms of Serie A experience.

“Now we’re on the right path and in the second half of the season we have to take more points and be ambitious to do more.

“Who I expect more from? I expect a lot from [Riccardo] Saponara and [Valentin] Eysseric, even if they haven’t been used much.

“I consider them to be two important players and I have a lot of confidence in them.”
