Milan coach Stefano Pioli said the Torino match at San Siro tomorrow will come too soon for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ismael Bennacer and Alexis Saelemaekers.

The Rossoneri are looking to bounce back from the defeat to Juventus during the week but are still struggling with a host of absentees.

“In a complicated season there are situations that can be there,” Pioli said at a press conference. “We have some difficulties but it’s useless to waste energy on things we can’t control.

“We must look for solutions. The team are doing well and we must continue tomorrow night.”

Former Milan coach Marco Giampaolo arrives with Torino tomorrow and his successor at the Giuseppe Meazza said he ‘respects’ the Granata.

“They had difficulties at the start but it’s normal when a coach arrives with new concepts,” Pioli said. “Now, they are going through a positive moment, they have conviction and are to be respected.”

Milan lost their first Serie A match in 2020-21 when Juventus returned to Turin with all the spoils on Wednesday night.

“[I handled the defeat] in the same way as we managed the wins,” Pioli continued. “There was no need for my intervention, to raise the morale of the players or Pioli’s.

“They know they played a fair game and have to think about the next ones. There’s awareness of our qualities and belief in our means.”

The coach doesn’t expect to have Ismael Bennacer and Alexis Saelemaekers back until the match against Cagliari.

“In our forecasts and those of the staff, they return against Cagliari. They are doing well, but they haven’t forced anything.”

Pioli added that he doesn’t believe Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be back in time to face the Granata at San Siro tomorrow.

“He has done his programme, he has done some work, but I don’t think he will be available tomorrow.

“We will have to grit our teeth, if two more injuries were to be added, we would have many absentees.

“We must resist, we must do well. If there were seven, eight, nine players missing, it would be normal to face difficulty. But the players will soon return and we can increase the rotations.”

Torino are unbeaten in four games and have climbed out of the relegation zone.

“We have the qualities to do well, our opponents will have great motivation but so do we."
