Sergiño Dest will return to Barcelona after a one-year loan at Milan: ‘He’s been struggling to adapt to our system,’ said the Rossoneri coach Stefano Pioli.
The USMNT international will return to Camp Nou after a disappointing loan spell at San Siro.
The 22-year-old moved to the Stadio Meazza on a temporary deal last summer but has only made 14 appearances across all competitions this season. Therefore, the Rossoneri won’t activate a €20m clause to make his move permanent.
“He is a player with important characteristics, but he’s been struggling to adapt to our system and has slipped down the pecking order,” Pioli said at a press conference on Saturday, as quoted by Milannews.
“He is not available for tomorrow, he’s not fit.”
Dest’s contract at the Nou Camp expires on June 2025.
The Rossoneri will host Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday in the last Serie A game of the campaign.
They have already secured a top-four finish, while the Gialloblu are desperate for three points in the race for Serie A survival.
During his press conference, Pioli discussed Milan’s transfer strategies for next season, saying he wants to sign “strong and intelligent players” over the summer.
