Milan coach Stefano Pioli explains why the Rossoneri kept a low profile during the January transfer window and praises Marko Lazetic.

The 18-year-old striker was Milan’s only signing in January. He replaced Pietro Pellegri who ended his loan at San Siro, joining Torino via Monaco.

The Rossoneri didn’t replace the injured Simon Kjaer while their direct opponents signed new players. Inter welcomed Robin Gosens and Felipe Caicedo. Atalanta lost Gosens, but signed Valentin Mihaila and Jeremie Boga and Juventus got Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria.

Pioli confirms Ibrahimovic and Rebic out of derby against Inter

“I know my players’ qualities, they must feel strong. We didn’t have a chance to sign a player who could improve the level of our team and we believe in our players. It was a shared decision,” Pioli said at a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s derby.

“Those who believe in what they do must be strong also during tough times. I am sure that we have a competitive team and we want to remain up there.

“Lazetic has a nice face. I think he has a strong character. He has physical strength and good technique. He will be with us tomorrow to understand what Italian football is about.”

  1. With all the good players around the world, you guys couldn’t find one player that could improve the squad?? The champions and league leaders despite they have quality players still tried to improve their squad. At the end of the season, the mentality Mr Pioli has wont give us anything more than what he achieved last season..we will still end up fighting for champions League places obviously!

  2. Of all the activity-or inactivity-the 1 decision i don’t understand is the Pellegri decision. He didn’t get a chance to prove himself nor get healthy. I was really looking forward to seeing how he could progress & hopefully develop with Milan. Also…he was italiano to boot.
