The Biancocelesti squad was locked in a pre-match training camp after their 5-0 defeat to Napoli and emerged with a win.

“Without doubt there were reassuring signs from this game,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“It was not an easy task, but we wanted to fight back, showed great spirit and won deservedly.

“I think the training retreat was useful so we could stay together, confront ideas and work. We had a good game tonight, but now have to find consistency.”

Felipe Anderson had been repeatedly benched, but started against Genoa and scored a wonderful goal.

“I hope this goal can give him the right belief in his own capabilities. I always tell the most talented players they have to win back the ball more often.

“I know he has quality, I believe in him and he must be intelligent enough to recognise those who want to help him and those who want to lead him astray.”
