Milan star Rafael Leao appears to back his compatriot Joao Felix who called for Portugal’s unity amid controversy over Cristiano Ronaldo’s bench role.

Portugal meet Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals today, and former Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start on the bench once again.

Joao Felix spoke at a press conference on Friday, asking fans and media to back the team and remain united ahead of such a crucial game.

“I want to leave a message to all Portuguese people and the media. Portugal is in a great competition, I think we should all be more united and not try to spoil the atmosphere we have in the team,” said the Atletico Madrid star.

Leao shared Joao Felix’s message on Twitter, adding a cryptic emoji to say that controversies have to stop and all the Portuguese should support the team.

Leao hasn’t started any game in Qatar yet but scored two goals in four appearances as a substitute.
