Picture: Fiorentina striker Kouamé imitates Lukaku’s celebration in fight against racism

Fiorentina striker Christian Kouamé scored against Monza and imitated Romelu Lukaku’s goal celebration.

The ex-Genoa striker broke the deadlock at the U-Power Stadium in Monza on Sunday and celebrated like the Inter forward who had silenced Juventus fans in their latest Coppa Italia meeting on April 4.

In that match, Lukaku had been targeted by racist insults from most Juventus fans in the Curva, so he reacted with his goal celebration, collecting a second yellow card.

FIGC has pardoned Lukaku, so he will be available in the second-leg semi-final against Juventus next week.

Lukaku had done the same after goals for his country to silence his critics, but his celebration has now become the symbol of the fight against racism and Kouame celebrated precisely the same way after his goal on Sunday.

His goal, however, was not enough for the Tuscans to secure a victory. Although Riccardo Saponara doubled their lead at minute 13, Monza bounced back, claiming a 3-2 win thanks to Cristiano Biraghi’s own goal, Dany Mota and Matte Pessina’s strikes.
