In a surprise twist, Krzysztof Piatek is reportedly heading back to Serie A for Fiorentina rather than Genoa on loan from Hertha Berlin with option to buy, raising question marks around what this means for Dusan Vlahovic.
The former Genoa and Milan striker was looking for a return to Italy in the January transfer window.
He impressed in Serie A from 2018 to January 2020, when he was sold to Hertha Berlin for €24m.
It had been reported he would make a comeback to Genoa on loan and work with new coach Andriy Shevchenko.
However, Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio claims this evening that Piatek is heading towards Fiorentina instead.
Sportitalia expert Alfredo Pedullà maintains it will include an option to buy for somewhere between €16m and €18m.
This represents an intriguing change of plan and also raises questions over what this means for Vlahovic, who was meant to remain at the Stadio Franchi until the end of the season.
It comes after reports Fiorentina were trying to pressure Vlahovic into accepting a move to Arsenal in January, although other options include Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid.
However, it’s more likely that Piatek will be considered the replacement for the deeply disappointing Aleksandar Kokorin.

This would be another great deal in buying terms by Fiorentina.
Piątek has his best years ahead of him and more experienced by now with a lower price tag.
Congrats Fiorentina for hijacking the deal, it might just work out perfectly well!
Nicolás Burdisso doing some good stuff over there as Technical Director.
Score as much goals as for Genoa and Milan, Kris :-).
