Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek expressed irritation and disappointment that one of his two goals against Atalanta was taken off him.

The Poland international has been a sensation in his debut Serie A season, finding the net 13 times in 17 games.

He thought he’d bagged a brace in yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Atalanta, but the opener was chalked off his account and registered by the Lega Serie A as a Rafael Toloi own goal.

“I am very happy with the great Genoa victory over Atalanta, but I celebrated less once I got to the locker room and realised my first goal was given as an own goal,” wrote Piatek on Instagram.

“I consider it to be a brace to all intents and purposes and hope the Lega Serie A will go back on its decision.”

It’s a very tight race for the Capocannoniere title, as Cristiano Ronaldo has 11 for Juventus.

Genoa fans have launched a petition to have the goal restored to Piatek, as the original attempt was on target even before Toloi’s deflection.
