Bulgaria coach Yasen Petrov announces he will make ‘many changes’ for the World Cup qualifier against Italy after a disastrous debut.

The game kicks off in Sofia on Sunday at 19.45 GMT.

While Italy beat Northern Ireland 2-0 in their opener, Bulgaria were 3-0 down at home to Switzerland within 15 minutes, eventually falling 3-1.

“The defeat to Switzerland was unpleasant,” said Petrov in his press conference.

“The defeat to Switzerland was unpleasant,” said Petrov in his press conference.

“We were flattened by a tornado for 12 minutes, I’d never seen anything like it. I won’t seek excuses, Switzerland wanted to win, we had four debutants and I did like the reaction in the second half.

“However, we must take responsibility for those 12 minutes. We have to fight hard. We’ll make many changes against Italy, because we have a different strategy for every game.

“I cannot reveal what I will change in detail, nor if we will adjust our tactical system.”
