Gianluca Petrachi admits Roma’s players are not training hard enough and likens the transfer market to a chessboard. “No-one’s making the first move.”

Petrachi has been linked with an exit in recent weeks, despite only replacing Monchi as sporting director last summer, and he issued a warning to Roma’s squad ahead of Serie A resuming on June 20.

“Especially in the first few days back, I saw the players train with real desire, ruthlessness and focus,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Especially in the first few days back, I saw the players train with real desire, ruthlessness and focus,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“This past week, I’ve only seen a bit of that from them so I have to make them understand that we’re approaching the season’s resumption.

“At the start, it was very nice to be together and meet again. We’re a family, but every now and then one of the kids run off or go somewhere…

The former Torino and Nottingham Forest man then explained how the coronavirus pandemic affected his ability to sign players.

“We’re all still waiting, no-one’s making the first move, even for players who have done well.”
