Former Roma director Gianluca Petrachi said ‘it’s not easy to replace Edin Dzeko’, who is heading to Serie A rivals Inter. ‘I think he’s an extraordinary footballer’.

The Bosnia international is on the verge of completing a move to the Nerazzurri ahead of 2021-22 and Petrachi spoke about his time at the Giallorossi, when he convinced the veteran to stay at the Olimpico.

“When I arrived at Roma, Dzeko was on the transfer market,” Petrachi told Sky Sport Italia. “In my small way, I imposed myself as much as I could.

“I dealt with a professional, an exemplary guy. Dzeko understood and finally convinced himself to stay with us. I think he’s an extraordinary footballer.

“Today, Roma are depriving themselves of this lad, it’s not easy to replace him. He’s a separate department.

“I wish him all the best, but it won’t be easy to replace him.”

Dzeko has scored 119 times in 260 competitive games since he joined Roma in July 2016 and has registered 15 goals in 25 Champions League matches with the Giallorossi shirt.
