Andrea Petagna claims he ‘thought about quitting’ after he left Milan and reveals why he hugged Gennaro Gattuso after he had scored.

The Italian striker scored the winner for Napoli in the Azzurri’s 2-1 win over Sampdoria.

“It’s a nice day for me, I want to thank everyone, especially my parents,” he told Sky Sport.

“If I am still playing football I owe it to them, I didn’t live nice moments in the past. It was not an easy game today, we had played a tough game on Thursday.

“I joined Sampdoria and I went to Serie B after I left Milan. There were difficult moments and I thought about quitting, but thanks to my parents I am still here.”

The 25-years-old hugged Gattuso after his goal.

“He told me I would score before the game. I am improving thanks to him, I play in a different way.

“We miss [Victor] Osimhen, he is really important for us but I am trying to play my cards right, I must continue to work like this.

“We must always give everything when we come off the bench, otherwise the coach will tear us to shreds inside the dressing room. That’s what is making us improve during trainings.”
