Andrea Petagna apologised to Napoli fans two months after the Partenopei failed to achieve a top-four finish: ‘We want to forget about it as soon as possible.’

Napoli had a chance book a place in the Champions League by winning their last 2020-21 Serie A game against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Maradona, but somehow they were held to a 1-1 draw that allowed Juventus to finish in the top-four after an away 4-1 win at Bologna.

“That Napoli vs. Verona is a sad memory, which we want to forget as soon as possible,” Petegna told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“We apologise to fans and we are determined to move on.”

Napoli sacked Gennaro Gattuso and hired Luciano Spalletti.

“I am learning a lot, I am proud to work with him,” Petagna said.

“We can improve following his methods. I am ready to play as a support striker behind a centre forward, I can do it.

“I know I must work a lot. Because of my physical structure, I need time to get in shape,” the former SPAL striker concluded.
