Matteo Pessina reveals he got to swap shirts with his idol Toni Kroos, but is still bitter that Atalanta were forced to play with 10 men against Real Madrid.

“It was a dream come true to play against Kroos, even though when you start playing, he becomes an opponent like any other. I managed to swap shirts with him at the end,” the midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.

“We train and prepare for these games. It was a pity that Remo Freuler’s red card changed everything. Doing so well when down to 10 men and then losing at the end really hurts.”

Pessina had started in the trequartista role behind Duvan Zapata and Luis Muriel in a 3-4-1-2 formation.

“I was meant to be the link between midfield and attack, taking it off Kroos and Modric and starting the attacking moves. We had been able to create some good opportunities even when down to 10 men, then unfortunately Duvan Zapata went off injured too.”
