Pescara released a statement after the surprise decision to award them a 3-0 victory over Sassuolo due to an ineligible player.

The Delfini did not appeal against the result, 2-1 to Sassuolo on the night, but the Lega Serie A spotted that Antonino Ragusa was fielded without first being replaced in the squad list handed to the authorities.

Sassuolo have announced they will appeal, claiming the rules have only recently changed and are still vague.

“Pescara want to win their games on the field and, with this principle, we achieved our objectives,” read a statement this evening.

“Having said that, we do need to remember that the rules are part of the game and respecting them is synonymous with respecting opponents and the entire football world.

“The Sporting Justice system verified and ascertained that Antonino Ragusa was not included by Sassuolo in the list of 25 players and therefore he did not have the right to take part in that match.

“Losing the game is the necessary consequence of such an irregularity.”
