Peru are again asking Lecce striker Gianluca Lapadula to play his international football with them ahead of the Copa America, it’s reported.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport writer Nicolò Schira, the Peruvian coach and Federation have once more approached the forward to ask for his availability.

Lapadula’s mother is from Peru and he has dual nationality, so can play for either Peru or Italy.

He was first asked in 2016, but at that time opted to wait for a potential Azzurri call-up instead.

That now seems improbable and the 30-year-old could therefore reconsider.

The Copa America is coming up this summer and would be a remarkable experience for the centre-forward.

He has nine goals in 18 games for Lecce this season, between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, including a brace in Sunday’s 3-2 win at Napoli.
