Simone Perrotta has come out in support of Francesco Totti and Morgan De Sanctis following the duo’s outbursts in light of Roma’s 3-2 defeat to Juventus.

The Giallorossi captain remarked that the Bianconeri should ‘have their own League’ straight after the game, while the veteran goalkeeper was later equally critical of the club’s handling of the affair.

“Totti and De Sanctis had the courage to express their opinion, and they should be respected for this because it’s not easy to get in front of a microphone and stand against all of Italian football,” their former teammate Perrotta has told reporters today.

“There will be people who agree and some who condemn their words, but I emphasise their courage, character and personality to express something that they felt deep inside.

“They should be respected for what they have given and are still giving to Italian football.”

The former Roma midfielder then claimed that the club ‘proved’ to be a stronger outfit than Juve, despite the defeatist scoreline.

“They are two very strong teams who have done battle and will fight to the end for the Scudetto. On paper, both teams are equal,” he added.

“Unexpectedly, Roma came out stronger than Juve. The gap has narrowed and, indeed, I think Roma have proved to be the stronger team.”
